After an eventful summer of amazing movies, both massive and smaller scale, the movie season starts winding down while the Television season starts ramping up. Ranging from a variety of superhero and even movie adaptations onto TV, Fall 2015 will also have a huge number of returning series continue their impressive runs. Be sure t let me know which is your favorite among the list of shows below.
So let’s take a look at The Most Anticipated New & Returning TV Shows of Fall 2015.
Series Premiere: September 21, 2015 (FOX)
The successful Steven Spielberg directed Tom Cruise starrer ‘Minority Report’ is being adapted into a Television series on FOX. Serving as a direct sequel to the events of the film, the TV Show will see a world where Pre-Crime, the police division with the ability to predict and arrest people prior to them committing crimes, has been disbanded. The series centers around one of the people with gifts to see the future, and he helps a Police Detective solve crimes, while trying to find his purpose in the world.
The premise of the show definitely lends itself to good procedural TV. However, if Fox was going to order a series where a police officer has a partner with unique abilities to help solve crimes in the future, why did they ever cancel ‘Almost Human’?!
Series Premiere: September 21st, 2015 (NBC)
Jaimie Alexander (‘Thor‘) stars in a brand new Series about an unknown woman found by the FBI with no memory of herself, but with Tattoos all over her body. The mystery of her origins deepens as they discovers the crimes they are solving are somehow connected to each tattoo on her body. The premise seems simple enough, but also nothing new. We’ve seen similar concepts in shows like ‘John Doe‘ and even the meaningful Tattoo concept was done in ‘Prison Break‘.
Series creator is Martin Gero, known for his work on the ‘Stargate‘ franchise. Which may be the only glimmer of hope for the continued survival of this show, which feels very weak to begin with.
Series Premiere: September 22nd, 2015 (CBS)
Based on the 2011 film ‘Limitless‘ starring Bradley Cooper, the show starts off after the events of the film, working as a direct sequel. Cooper’s character is also a recurring character, guiding the new character through life as he discovers a miracle drug that allows him to become super smart and experience life from completely new senses; or introducing him into it for his own nefarious purposes, as the Trailer suggests.
Being the 2nd show on this list created as a sequel to the movie, ‘Limitless’ (My Review here) certainly has a lot more weight behind it than ‘Minority Report‘. The makers of the film have a direct hand in this show, as some episodes are directed by Marc Webb (‘The Amazing Spider-Man‘) and the series is produced by the same team, including the film’s director being involved as well. The show looks interesting and definitely will have a newer story to tell, weaving in the best elements from the movie.
New Series Premiere: September 24th, 2015 (NBC)
Series Premiere: September 27th, 2015 (ABC)
Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra debuts in her own new Series about new FBI trainees who come under fire after a terrorist attack causes one of them to be the prime suspect. Chopra is leading the ensemble cast that includes mostly new faces but with writers whose credits include ‘Gossip Girl’.
The series, without divulging much details, seems to be more about terrorism and law enforcement, but one wonders how much this show would be able to push the envelope regarding these topics on a large network, given that other shows are dealing with the same topic in a more graphic manner on cable channels like ‘Homeland’. MARVEL’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.
Season 3 Premiere: September 29th, 2015 (ABC)
After a revamped Season two that helped establish the show in its own right, ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ returns with a Season 3 that is said to be following story lines from the comics. Season 2 saw some pretty great original characters evolve into ones from the comic book world such as Daisy (Chloe Bennett). Now, the new season will see her develop into a complete super hero character, with others along for the ride. With the Season ending on a cliffhanger last season, the resolution of everything is highly anticipated.
Season 2 Premiere: October 9th, 2015 (HBO)
HBO’s keeps chugging along with innovative and original shows. ‘The Leftovers’ provided a gripping and harrowing story of a certain portion of the world ‘s population disappearing in one day, that spawned major loss, religious turmoil and upheaval in peoples’ beliefs and acceptance of reality. The show follows characters such as a small town Sherriff and others dealing with the aftermath of the mass disappearance.
It’s hard to see where the story lines are going after an emotionally draining Season 1. The show is created and run by Damon Lindelof (‘Lost‘) and was one of the better cable TV shows of last season.
Season 2 Premiere: October 6th, 2015 (CW)
Season 2 Premiere: October 6th, 2015 (CW)
Season 4 Premiere: October 7th, 2015 (CW)
THE WALKING DEAD
