Trailer Talk: JANUARY 2015 (Bollywood Edition)
Welcome to the first Bollywood TRAILER TALK feature of 2015. Another year, and another batch of movies for us like, hate and love. Bollywood has always had the first month’s movies set the tone for the rest of the year. This year, there’s not many releases for the industry, but they are big named actors and directors, and at least one should hit the mark. So let’s take a look at the Bollywood releases for January 2015.
MUMBAI CAN DANCE SAALAA (January 2nd, 2015)
This Bollywood B movie has accomplished the never before thought possible task of making me cringe during the entire trailer. Featuring 3 cabarets in the 2 minute 31 second trailer, this movie looks atrocious. Aditya Pancholi looks good in a beard though.
TAKE IT EASY (January 2nd, 2015)
While not boasting any big names at all, ‘Take It Easy’ seems to focus on the pressure put on upper middle class children in India to succeed in school and life. The Trailer, while too long, brings up many good points about the unjust parental influence during those years of schooling, while some moments seem to melodramatize those same situations. Doubt anyone will watch this.
TEVAR (January 9th, 2015)
In his short career Arjun Kapoor has done a varied body of work with few missteps. This one is a home production under his father & uncle’s banner and seems not that interesting, and I fear it might be another ‘Gunday‘ for the young actor. Also Sonakshi Sinha and him make a weird pairing.
SHARAFAT GAYI TEL LENE (January 16th, 2015)
Oh Zayed Khan, where have you been all these years. A comedy of errors looks like it’s not going to do that well given it’s a tired genre with seemingly nothing original whatsoever. And the laughs… what laughs?
ALONE (January 16th, 2015)
Bipasha Basu arguably kicked off the sexy horror movie trend in Bollywood with ‘Raaz’ all those years ago. She returns with ‘Alone’ which, actually doesn’t look half bad as horror movies go. The concept of a dead Conjoined twin returning to haunt her sister seems kinda cool.
CRAZY KUKKAD FAMILY (January 16th, 2015)
A crazy family comedy that tries way too hard to be exactly that. These types of comedies work when the characters are genuinely messed up, not trying to be so for the sake of being crazy, as even the narrator of the trailer has to point out how crazy they are.
BABY (January 23rd, 2015)
Akshay Kumar is good at the mostly comedy movies he does, but his best when he’s dramatic. Seemingly devoid of any of his usual brand of humour, ‘Baby’ looks like an anti-terrorism film that boasts of an impressive ensemble cast such as Kay Kay Menon and other familiar faces. This can easily be my Bollywood Movie Of The Month.
DOLLY KI DOLI (January 23rd, 2015)
Whatever opinions people may have about Sonam Kapoor, the girl picks interesting movies. Playing a con-woman can be added to her list of unique characters and this one definitely looks unique to say the least.
KHAMOSHIYAN (January 30th, 2015)
The 2nd Bollywood horror movie releasing this month doesn’t look at all as interesting as the first. A typical sexy horror movie from the Bhatts, as evident by the soulful song that plays during the entire trailer with cryptically soap opera style one liners.
HAWAIZAADA (January 30th, 2015)
While I love almost everything Ayushman Khurrana’s done so far, this doesn’t look good. With a panting-like steam punk cinematography and sets, this supposed bio-pic doesn’t look interesting or inspiring enough to want to watch. Still the best and most commercial movie with no competition on the weekend of its release.
