Trailer Talk: 47 RONIN (2013)
For those not familliar with the “Trailer Talk” feature here at Blank Page Beatdown:
“Trailer Talk” is where I document my freak outs regarding upcoming films that I get super excited about. Or rip apart with my super critical bionic eye. It’s also an attempt to feature some films that may not get the attention they deserve prior to release, but movies definitely worth keeping an eye out for. Not the bionic one. Sometimes I make predictions, and we get to see if I’m right or wrong after the movie releases.”
When I first heard about the Keanu Reeves starring 47 RONIN, I assumed it was a cool dramatic but talky and slow Samurai movie similar to THE LAST SAMURAI. But holy shit was I wrong! I was not prepared for this at all! Check out the first Trailer below…
The Trailer is mind blowing. It’s got elements of every awesome fantasy genre crammed into one movie. It’s looks to be one of those genre mashups with an original story behind it, somewhat. The world looks to be feudal Japan, where a man was exiled and sold into slavery for whatever reasons, but then was sought out to save their world from a mysterious enemy. This man is Keanu Reeves, again.
After seeing a bright and shiny world that looks cinematically awesome, we’re shown a horrible and desolate world taken over by the bad guys who have an infinite army apparently. Keanu is rescued by Hiroyuki Sanada’s character to lead an army of 47 Samurai warriors against the enemy to free the world from their tyranny. It’s not clear why, but it doesn’t matter! This is 300 meets THE LAST SAMURAI!
The fantasy elements in this Trailer surprise the most. There is, what look to be Ogres in a underground fighting ring, creepy Asian ladies transforming into Chinese Dragons, massive Trolls, freaky smokey Monks and other weird shit happening, and our 47 warriors must fight ‘em all! It looks pretty bad ass.
Keanu Reeves might not be on others’ list of great actors, but I like the guy. His performances are sincere, though wooden at times, and there’s a hollow and contemplative vibe to his deliveries. So I’m damn excited for this. Plus Samurais fighting CGI creatures of Asian mythology in an all out war? Hell YES!
47 RONIN releases on Christmas day, December 25th, 2013.
